Practice - In order to get in rhythm of the turns, a driver will repetitively lay off the gas - switch gears - and accelerate through the turns. In order to understand the course, a racer needs to focus with repetition in order to know when to accelerate and when to be aware of cautions.
Training - When dealing with the toughest turns of a course when there are multiple turns in rapid succession, it is important to break it down turn by turn so as to not crash into a wall or slow down to where your competitors are leaving you behind. One turn at a time - the crew chief can walk his racer into every turn so that to understand how the piece is part of a whole.
Development - Developing a race car driver is the holistic approach to understanding the car, the race track, the weather, and the communication between one's body, mind, and crew chief. It gives it a whole new meaning to winning.
The same goes for athletes in their endeavors. We all have unique engines, tires, and roads to race on. This can apply to your given sport whether it be Football, Basketball, Track & Field, or Soccer.
